From bush to bottle
How rooibos becomes skincare
Harvested in summer, the needles are cut, bruised and left to oxidise in the sun - the step that turns them that unmistakable amber-red. Unfermented green rooibos skips the oxidising and keeps a higher share of its original antioxidants, which is why it appears so often in treatment products.
Antioxidant rich
Rooibos carries a distinctive group of plant antioxidants, including aspalathin, a compound found in almost no other plant. Antioxidants help neutralise the unstable molecules produced by sun, pollution and ordinary metabolism before they can damage the proteins that keep skin firm.
Anti-ageing support
Visible ageing is cumulative. By reducing daily oxidative load and supporting the skin's own repair rhythm, a consistent rooibos routine helps skin hold on to its resilience, its bounce and its even tone for longer.
Naturally calming
Rooibos is caffeine-free and unusually low in tannins, and it has a long domestic history of being used on reactive, itchy or irritated skin. That makes it a gentle starting point for people who react to almost everything else.
Mineral content
The plant contributes trace minerals such as zinc, magnesium and potassium, all of which play quiet supporting roles in barrier function and comfort.
